Factor the trinomail, or state that the trinomail is prime. x^2-7x+12 x^2-x-40 5x^2 -23x +12 7x^2+4x+3 15x^2+22x+8 9x^2-6x-8 Show work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right. 6 problems? what work are you supposed to show? if it factors you know because when you multiply out you should get the original expression

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first one is \[x^2-7x+12=(x-3)(x-4)\] for example

OpenStudy (anonymous):

second one factors but not over integers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so prime?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it depends on what you are factoring over, but it is not prime because it has two real roots. if you want to cheat just type them here http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=factor+5x^2+-23x+%2B12
