Solving a literal equation is closely related to simplifying expression, because, in essence mathematics and its core and using PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction) to give a complete answer that was gotten in the right order. (I believe this is what was meant by the question...if not could you explain more?
