Evaluate: P(-1/2) if P(x) = x4 + 3x2 + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plug in -1/2 for all the x's

OpenStudy (anonymous):

P(-1/2)=(-1/2)^4 + 3(-1/2)^2 + 2 Work it out and there is your solution.

Would if I knew how

So after simplifying it further, we get 1/16 + 3/4 + 2. Now we need to find a common denominator, in this case it's 16. So now the problem becomes 1/16 + 12/16 + 32/16. Now add: 45/16

oh good grief, why does it have to be so complicated? thank you, I would never have gotten there
