need to write a definition negation for the word "moral"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could you probably start with the definition of immoral? That might lead you into where you want to go?

what exactly is the purpose of this assignment? are you supposed to define moral and then show how that's not true? you could take an example and show how what is immoral in one culture is perfectly acceptable in another. Human sacrifice, for instance, is considered horrific in American society today, but to the Aztecs it was a very important part of religious life.

The first two answers descirbe morality as a social product that is more or less contingent and purely contextual. From this point of view, being moral means to adhere to a behavioral code that is widely accepted within the society. Being moral from an existentialist point of view (Sartre: "damned to be free") means something different. It is more of an inner quality, basically to act upon standards so that you can live with yourself. Also, you might want to look at Kant's imperative.
