A meeting of cultures is usually premised on similar ways of looking at the world. Usually this happens between similarly "civilized" cultures with similar levels of technological advancement. On the contrary, European expansion into the New World met a culture with completely dissimilar values - Native Americans had radically different views on reality - and a lesser level of warfare technology. The two cultures could not easily understand one another so they quickly came into conflict; hence a "Collision".
