how do you factor equations

OpenStudy (amistre64):

there are many ways; some gooder than others

OpenStudy (amistre64):

broad sweeping questions tend to generate broad sweeping responses :) you got anything specific?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about the equation squared + 2x + 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

xsquared

OpenStudy (amistre64):

x^2 +2x +1 ; can be factored, which means we want to split it up into component parts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the set up is: (x...M)(x...N) now M and N need to multiply together to get 1 well 1*1 = 1 :) (x...1) (x...1) now to determine what signs to put such that 1 ? 1 = 2 id say + (x+1) (x+1) ; or simply (x+1)^2
