The radioactive element americium-241 has a half-life of 432 years. Suppose we start with a 25-g mass of americium-241. How much will be left after 263 years? Compute the answer to three significant digits.

This is a chemistry question. :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is exponential decay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plug into the formula: 25 / 2^(283/432) = B. 15.9 g

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this answer isnt in one of my options : i have a 15.2g, 16.4g, 20.8g, and 8.0 g

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my mistake, i put 283 instead of 263 in the formula, so it should be 16.4g
