When rolling two dice, which outcome is more likely, a sum of 4 or a sum of 6? A. They are equally likely. B. A sum of 6 is more likely. C. A sum of 4 is more likely. D. It cannot be determined.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

four is either 1+3 or 2+2. 6 is either 1+5 or 2+4 or 3+3. Each dice has 1/6 possibility to give the desired case. Both dices 1/36. It is equally likely

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how are they equal if one has a 2/32 prob. and the other is 3/32?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first of all it is /36. You think of the individual dice not the pair. Therefore each one of the 5 pairs can occur 1 into 36 times. this is why they are equallylikely

So its equally possible to roll snake-eyes as to rolling a total of six. I must admit, that is counter intuitive.
