im a freshman . and im working on Variables And Expressions... umm Help? "the sum of 13 and twice a number h " ??
13+ 2h
i love you!!!! i fail at math
So the easiest way to look at these is to break the words down into steps. you have a number.. 13. and the word sum. so you know you will have 13 plus something. now you have a number ( H )... but you need twice that number so you have 2H therefor you will have 13 +2H
ahh i see
Breaking it down will help you become faster and faster... its like taking a bunch of pieces of a puzzle and spreading them out so you can look at them closely and see which parts fit together.
okay well i did y minus 12 , and i got 12-y . is that right?
well not quite. you should swap it arround. it will be the variable y first minus 12.
did it say.. a number y minus 12?
no it just says y minus 12 . but in class my teacher was saying the "a number.." thing .
ok yeah it will end up being Y-12
ohh.. so if it says A Number then does the number go first?
no not really. when it says a number.. it will give a variable right after that such as X or Y or some other letter. All that means is that letter represents an unknown number. so you can have it say A number X.... or A number Y and thats what it is saying... we have a number we dont know.. so we will give it a letter instead.
"a number y" means the same thing as just saying "y" when it comes to the subtraction it stays with the same rules. "y minus 12" means y-12. its like saying "5 minus 3" that is 5-3 which is not at all the same thing as 3 minus 5 or 3-5
i am so confused . im sorry
haha its ok i can understand how this is difficult. it only makes it harder that im typing this to you and not talking directly to you
im trying to figure out a way i can actually be of more help to you
yeah i know haha. im a slow learner . and i suck at math so this is going to be hard lol.
well its ok. it may take sometime but once it finally clicks it will become really really easy. you will need to learn it though because youll be using this as a base for most of all the other math you learn from now on.
uuuuugggghhhh . kill me now . okay , the product of 15 and c . i put 15xC , is it wrong?
No! that ones right! good job!
REALLY!?!?!?!? :D . yaaaaaaay . okay , the quotient of 17 and k . i put 17/k . right or wrong?
Yup!
yay :D . okay . the sum of v and 3. 3+v ?
yup yup
okay :D can you help me with "the product of 2.1 and the sum of 5 k" ??
ok yeh lemme see for a second.
ok is it the sum of 5 and k or 5k
5 and k.
ok so you have a product... so you know you will be multiplying to things. one of them is the number 2.1 and the other is a sum of two numbers 5 and k so you will end up with 2.1 * (5+k) the star means the same thing as a multiply symbol X
oh okay.. yeah . makes sense lol. well now i have to make word phrases ..?
ok you are just gonna go the other way around. like 5 + Y would be the sum of 5 and y
okay i have 3 - T , would that be like T minus 3 or.. like what??
close. it would be 3 minus T
do you get why?
no i do not lol
ok... so look at a problem like 8 - 5.. how would you write that in word form
ahh i have to go i'll be back kater!!! church-.-
ok idk if i will be on or not. what time you think youll be on and i will try to get on
