\[\frac{1}{4}x-\frac{1}{3}=\frac{1}{2}\] \[\frac{1}{4}x=\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{3}=\frac{5}{6}\]\[x=\frac{5}{6}\times 4=\frac{10}{3}\]
which reduces to 3 and 1/3

it is true that \[\frac{10}{3}=3\tfrac{1}{3}\] but that is not "reducing" that is turning an improper fraction into a mixed number
