hi can someone help me with factoring to find possible values of a variable

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

Alright

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do it?

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

there is no problem, how can u solve? o.O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

quadratic formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the highest power is 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could someone give me an example

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x^2+7x+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would you fine 2 possible values of x

lookat the factors of the number without a variable

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are the factors of that equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2x+1)(x+3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the first parentheses the numbers you factored out and the second one the numbers that couldnt be factored?

suppose u have an equation x^2 +bx +c c is 2 numbers multiplied together lets say its d and e so c=d*e then b=d+e u have to use these 2 relationships to figure out the factors. factoring is a hard thing to explain and a difficult thing to grasp. most of the time its just trial and error. u have to use the 2 relationshipsi have above to figure out what the numbers are. At this point in ur learning thats the best i can give u
