Where does the word "Neophyte" come from?

Neo means new where as Phyte means plant. Biological an embroyo of a germinating seed is considered a plant. Well, this is Biology, such type of words are known as portmenteau as two words are combined.

The Neophyte here signifies a beginner. The site has introduced something new from the words beginner, starter or elementary instead they are using Neophyte.

Well Neo is derived from greek word newos and it means new as aforementioned, whereas phyta means plant and is derived also from a greek word phuton.
