first find the common denominator for the fractions on the left hand side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i show work to get there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply the left fraction by x+1/x+1 and the second to left fraction by x-1/x-1 and youll have the common denominator of (x+1)(x-1) which is the same as x^2-1. then move the 2/x^2-1 to the left side. they all have the same denominator. you can get rid of the bottom now since it is equal to zero. then just distribute what you have left and solve for x. im pretty sure its x =3

take LCM of L-H-S and u will see both sides will have same denominator cancel is and u get a simple equation solve that
