In the figure below, lines p and q are parallel. The measure of angle 1 is 162°. What is the measure of angle 3? Explain how you know. http://logon.njvhs.org/webdav/assessment_images/educator_math3/v8/07_04c_50_020.jpg

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

Vertical angles m1 = m3 m3 = 162

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you explain that a little better please ?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

All vertical angles are equal 1=3 2=4 5=7 6=8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is that ?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

because when 2 lines intersect, it creates like a mirror image on either side of a line. also we know that a straight line is 180 degrees 1+2 = 180 3+4 = 180 the mirror image makes it such that 1=3 and 2=4

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

sorry im not the best at explaining geometry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what is the total answer ?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

the answer?? m3 = 162 because angles 1 and 3 are vertical angles
