Hi! [:D I don't know how to solve this problem. Could you help me out? I do not understand part "b". 4a. State the Segment Addition Postulate using the diagram. (Picture of a S.A.P. with points A,B and C in that order) 4b. If JE=x+3, JM=4x-7, and EM=11, find JE and JM.

OpenStudy (oblivious):

SAP: if B is between A and C, then AB + BC = AC. thus JE + EM = JM or x+3 + 11 = 4x-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I solve the equation right?

OpenStudy (oblivious):

solve and then plug x into the equations for JM and JE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok..doing it now...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+3+11=4x-7 x+14=4x-7 +7 +7 x+21=4x -x -x 21 =3x *Divide by 3 on both sides x=7?

OpenStudy (oblivious):

yes, then plug bag into the original equations and you have both JE and JM

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh! Ok. I get it now. Before, I thought x=3. I appreciate your help :D
