8000 = x + y

yeah, there seems to be something missing.  The amount of interest accumulated. 

Let x be the amount invested at 5%, and y be the amount invested at 7%.
Let I be the amount of interest accumulated (the number thats missing)

Your two equations should be:
x + y = 8000
.05x + .07y = I

You would have 2 equations in 2 unknowns you could solve, but without I, theres nothing more we could do.
