The Perks of Being a Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky Looking for Alaska - John Green It's Kind of a Funny Story - Ned Vizzini Harry Potter Series - J.K. Rowling The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown The Dresden Files - Jim Butcher The Kay Scarpetta Series - Patricia Cornwell Burned, Crank, Glass, Fallout, Identical, Impulse, or Tricks - Ellen Hopkins Hope this helps! :)

For laughs, I'd check out "A Confederacy of Dunces"(John Toole), "Breakfast of Champions" (Kurt Vonnegut), and "Catch-22" (Joseph Heller). After reading all three of these, I can safely say they're hilarious.
