Multiply. Express product in lowest terms: 2/x^3 * 4x/5 * 35/x^5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2*4x*35 /x^3 *5*x^5 so we can see what we are doing...

To do this one, it is important to understand how to multiply fractions. You multiply all numerators together and you multiply all denominators together. (The numerators are all the tops of the fractions and the denominators are all of the bottoms) So, for the numerators on top you have 2* 4x * 35 which equals 280x so that goes on top of your fraction answer. For the bottom, you have x^3 * 5 * x^5 which is 5x^8 since you add the exponents when you multiply two like variables (x in this case is our variable). So our answer is (280x)/(5x^8). However, we can still reduce it since there is an x on top and x^8 on the bottom and also 280 is a multiple of 5. This reduces down nicely to 56/x^7 since x/x^8 is 1/x^7 and 280/5 is 56 :)
