OpenStudy (smurfy14):

what does asymptotes mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A line that approaches a curve but never touches.

OpenStudy (smurfy14):

oh ok thanks! so how would you 'list asymptotes' when u have a graph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just list the equations of the lines.

OpenStudy (smurfy14):

so if it was the parent function f(x)=1/x then how do i list it?..just write the equation again?

OpenStudy (phi):

The asymptote is the line that the curve approaches. In your case, the asymptotes are the x-axis and the y-axis. You can also say the asymptotes are the lines y=0 (this is the x-axis) and x=0 (this is the y-axis)
