Is this (8/(c-1+4))/(c^2-1)?
If so, you have:

8*(c^2-1)/(c+3)

Which should simplify to: 8c^2-8/c+3.

I do not have scrap paper on me as I am on a train right now, but I believe this is correct. You use the concept of complex fractions and inverses.
