Can anyone help me understand Polynomials, trinomials, and binomials??? My lesson makes NO sense!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you have a particular question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, i'm taking Alg. 1 online this summer, to get ahead in school, and the assignment is all about Polynomials, etc... So i can give you one... But i just don't understand it... haha... Choose the correct classification of 2x + 10x2 − x3 by number of terms and by degree. Third degree trinomial Fourth degree trinomial Sixth degree polynomial First degree binomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this one is a third degree trinomial. Why you ask. B/c is has three terms, that is 2x, 10x^2, and x^3. The reason it is third degree is because

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the largest exponent is x^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Binomial: Two Terms -> x+5 Trinomial: Three Terms -> x^2 + x + 5 Polynomial: Many Terms -> x^5 + x^4 + x^3 + 2x^2 + 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look it up on khan academy if you have time. they have an excellent tutorial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the degree refers to the highest exponent on a variable. the prefix then -nomial refers to amount of terms binomial is 2 trinomial is 3 etc

Thank You everyone!!! I aced the assignment! :)
