how come 2*50+1=101 but 51*2=102

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because 50 + 50 = 100 51 + 51 = 102

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if its 2(50+1) then its 102

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2(50) + 1 \neq 2(50 + 1)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since you are multiplying by 2 , they go up by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to follow the rules of operation: parentheses, exponents, multiply/devide, addition/subtraction (PEMDAS) for 2*50+1 you have to MULTIPLY first, then add. if you had added first then they would be equal, but you can't :(
