I am not sure if this helps but if you are talking about today, we live in a post-modern world which is worth looking up on youtube. Whilst the basic infrastructural is the same, capitalism is global (Giddens), there is a general loss in grand narratives i.e. religion, and whilst people in Marx's were working in factories we live in a generally service economy. The UK is often described as a consumption society, as opposed to a production society.
