OpenStudy (osanseviero):

True or false? (a) ø = {0} (b) x ∈ { x } (c) ø = { ø } (d) ø ∈ { ø }

OpenStudy (zarkon):

what do you think :)

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

it is of the set theory, of a friend of 12th...but i am just starting learning the set theory.

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

the first symbols means that it is an empty set...but if there is a 0 inside the brackets, then it isnt an empty...but i am not sure

OpenStudy (zarkon):

correct...so the first one is false

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yes - thats the empty set right?

OpenStudy (zarkon):

\[\emptyset=\{\}\]

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

There is a 0 inside...so it isnt an empty set?

OpenStudy (zarkon):

correct...it is the set that contains zero

OpenStudy (zarkon):

which is not the empty set

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

oh thanks...then B i know it is true...that is easy

OpenStudy (zarkon):

correct

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

i really dont know how to answer c....it is confusing

OpenStudy (zarkon):

on the left is the empty set...a set that has nothing in it on the right is a set that contains the empty set...so that set has something in it

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

oh...then it is false

OpenStudy (zarkon):

correct

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

so d is true :)

OpenStudy (zarkon):

yes

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

thanks zarkon :)

OpenStudy (zarkon):
