I don't know if anyone has played around w/ google app inventor but it is a lot of fun.
They are about to take it down...I don't know when but they say they will release it to open source community when they do.
Basically it allows you to build Android phone apps and test them on a virtual phone. You program by dragging around and snapping together colored blocks representing math, logic, text and your imported items like photos. Most fun I have had since first grade.

Also they have some really great easy to follow tutorials which get you started building phone apps right away.
