Hehe. We first started developing OpenStudy as a concept about three years ago, but this version is about 8 months old or so. It didn't become the main face of OpenStudy until mid-to-late-March.

Actually I don't have dates but it originates from the creation of MIT OCW Research Project where Researchers set up site where Self Learners asked and asked questions related to materials on MIT OCW site.
Opencourseware has spread globally as a resource and this site hence the need to provide a Resource where Self learners can be their own DIY University without the provision of formal strutures which normally provide context for the asking and answering and pursuing of hard intellectual questions.
