what's same about trips in both direction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let r be the speed and t be the time to travel 64 miles in the first direction. Solve the following simultaneous equations for r and t:\[{r t = 64, 2 r ( t - 2 ) = 64} \]\[\{r\to 16,t\to 4\} \]The speed out and return was 16 mph and 32 mph respectively.
