Hi :) so i'm doing IGCSE, and i'm supposed to write a response to media (article), but am not sure of how exactly to start. can someone help me? The article which i have to write about will be in a comment.

Hi.

There are a couple of ways to handle this, but some of them are more basic and easier to do than others. If you are confused about whether to state your position in the first or last paragraph, that's easy--do it in the first.

Here's why: as a fairly new writer, your thesis statement should appear early in your essay. Often, it will be the last sentence in your first paragraph, although this is a guideline, not a law. As you advance the theses statement can move around or get more diffuse, but for now is should appear early on.

Work up to your position statement (thesis), then write several paragraphs of evidence supporting your position. Quote from the article. Introduce each quote, then after quoting, explain how the quote supports your position.

In the conclusion, come back full circle to the thesis.
