Does anybody know how to make a Truth Table? I need some help making one for this problem. ~q V p
i always start with the number of parts in a statement here we have p,q so then i start by saying p q T T T F F T F F
now we look at ~q
~q is going to have opposite values of q
don't you just loathe these?
~q F T F T
@estudier that does give a nice table but doesn't really show where the last column comes from
now we look at the or part ~q or p (we want both ~q, p to have T or we want one them to be T) T T F T
p q ~q ~q v p -------------------------------- T T F T T F T T F T F F F F T T Notes: ~q is "not q" and it has the opposite truth value of q. Also, ~q v p is only false when BOTH ~q and p are false
another note: ~q v p is the same as q --> p, which is an implication
so in the final column the ~q is the opposite of q too?
Admittedly a written test might expect the not q column in between....
I'm drawing upon the ~q column to help me complete the ~q v p column.
so in the final column the ~q is the opposite of q too? not q always means not q.... The table is a way of building up the answer in stages so u show p and q first (that is all the possibilities ie 4) then not q by itself which is just the negation of q and finally an or in the last column.
ok that make sense
