The equation x+3y=-12 is the line that has intercepts (-12,0) and (0,4); as an inequality the solution region is the half-plane above the line. The equation 4x-5y=-10 is the line with intercepts (-2.5,0) and (0,2); as an inequality the solution region is the half-plane below the line. Thus, the solution region for the system is the intersection or common region of two previously described regions, i.e., the green region of the plane.
