Does anyone know how to do proofs for Geometry?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

estudier :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. Nobody does.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ask estudier?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Give me one though. I'll give it a shot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In general a proof is going to go like this: I know some basic information about the shapes. My proof begins with "Assume _____" where that blank is what you know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then you make some conclusions that follow from that assumptions, then some more and some more until you conclude what you're trying to prove.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then you write "QED" 'cause you got mad style like that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Segment UV is congruent to segment XY and VW is congruent to segment WX, and segment WX is congruent to segment YZ. (Write a complete proof by rearranging the reasons listed as soon as I finish typing it out) :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi hahd!!! xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do we have to prove?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Any image that needs to be attached?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and hi jessica

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.Transitive property of segment congruence 2.addition property of equality 3.definition of congruent segments 4.given 5.segment addition postulate 6.definition of congruent segments 7.substitution property of equality

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Idk. How to attach an image.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says attatch file on bottom

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Those are going to be reasons you can claim something.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anyway ill let smooth math do it he sounds senior, my friend just called me over, ill be back later

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I have to rearrange it into another proof but I feel completely lost.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and estudier is here u are all set

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We still need to know the statement to be proven. And we might need an image.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Aw......ok then....Bye hahd! x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bye

OpenStudy (phi):

Are you sure "and segment WX is congruent to segment YZ." is not THEN segment WX is congruent to segment YZ.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't actually know 2 column either. I do it up pro style or no style.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh yeah....your right. Lol, thanks that was my mistake. :)

OpenStudy (phi):

You confused a lot of people. I bet they can help you now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you Phi!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay then. To Prove: If segment UV is congruent to segment XY and VW is congruent to segment WX, then segment WX is congruent to segment YZ.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. That is correct. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think we need the image.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did I do something wrong?!!??!??!?!? It's yellow!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it saved on your computer somewhere? If it is, click attach file, find the file and select it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No.....it's in my textbook..... :,(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Draw it for us then. http://www.twiddla.com/599082

OpenStudy (phi):

Just list out the order of the points.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha didn't know you were a Twiddla hater, Estudiar.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

O------O------O------O------O-----O U V W X Y Z

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is a twiddla?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To Prove: If segment UV is congruent to segment XY and VW is congruent to segment WX, then segment WX is congruent to segment YZ.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. We need the actual picture. That's not enough information to prove it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.....I'll try the tweedle thingy.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://www.twiddla.com/599082

OpenStudy (phi):

Did you leave out a sentence in the problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you take a picture of the page in the textbook and attach it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Idk. How would I "paste" it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you would use the Attach File button below.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I only have my cell phone....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You guys can go somewhere else. :) It'll take a while to type it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or people.....not guys...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.Segment UV is congruent to segment XY, segment VW is congruent to segment WX, segment WX is congruent to segment YZ [Reasons: Transitive property of segment congruence] 2.Segment VW is congruent to segment XZ [Reason: Addition property of equality] 3.Segment UV is equal to XY, VW is equal to YZ [Reason: Definition of congruent segments] 4.UV+VW=XY+YZ [Reason: Given] 5.UV+VW=UW, XY+YZ=XZ [Reason: Segment addition postulate] 6.UW=XZ [Reason: Definition of congruent segments] 7.Segment UW is congruent to segment XZ [Reason: Substitution property of equality]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the goal is to rearrange the above, right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes :)

OpenStudy (aroub):

lol this is interesting..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aroub, if you scroll up - you will see the diagram (line with letters).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Start with #4 :) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Me?

OpenStudy (aroub):

ok!

OpenStudy (aroub):

letter x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

...........what now? [O_____O] -{____}- (( ))

OpenStudy (phi):

Are you sure about 2) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are we supposed to use all the steps ? is there any other info (such as what we need to prove) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, #2 is correct. Any other info? No.....not that I know of. :)

OpenStudy (phi):

I can see VW congr. to YZ or UW congr to XZ

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

???? chaise? I don't get your post....

OpenStudy (phi):

2 must be a typo or bad eyes! It must be UW is congruent to XZ note as it is written it conflicts with 7 UW is congruent to XZ

OpenStudy (anonymous):

????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT!?!?!?!?!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry...that was for those chaise persons.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Jessica, can you confirm what is the correct statement for #2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2. Segment VW is congruent to segment YZ [Reason: Addition property of equality]

OpenStudy (aroub):

1.Segment UV is congruent to segment XY, segment VW is congruent to segment WX, segment WX is congruent to segment YZ [Reasons: Transitive property of segment congruence] 2.Segment VW is congruent to segment XZ [Reason: Addition property of equality] 3.Segment UV is equal to XY, VW is equal to YZ [Reason: Definition of congruent segments] 4.UV+VW=XY+YZ [Reason: Given] 5.UV+VW=UW, XY+YZ=XZ [Reason: Segment addition postulate] 6.UW=XZ [Reason: Definition of congruent segments] 7.Segment UW is congruent to segment XZ [Reason: Substitution property of equality] if u just want rearrange them.. then 1..Segment UV is congruent to segment XY, segment VW is congruent to segment WX, segment WX is congruent to segment YZ [Reasons: Transitive property of segment congruence] 2.Segment VW is congruent to segment XZ [Reason: Given] 3..Segment UV is equal to XY, VW is equal to YZ [Reason: Definition of congruent segments] 4.UV+VW=XY+YZ [Reason: Addition property of equality] 5.UV+VW=UW, XY+YZ=XZ [Reason: Segment addition postulate]

OpenStudy (aroub):

i assumed that 2 is given am i right jessica? (i mean do u have it as a given?)

OpenStudy (phi):

She just reposted, and it makes more sense now. 2. Segment VW is congruent to segment YZ [Reason: Addition property of equality]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol, I think so.... In the book it is like this: Prove-> Segment UW is congruent to segment XZ

OpenStudy (aroub):

ok jessica they actually write : given:.... , proof... so whats the given u have??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a pic is worth a thousand words :)

OpenStudy (aroub):

oh and do u have any graph, picture anything..????

OpenStudy (aroub):

lol yea!! it makes work so much easier!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

O------O------O------O------O-----O U V W X Y Z

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Segment UV is congruent to segment XY, segment VW is congruent to segment WX, segment WX is congruent to segment YZ. ............................do I have to go on the tweedle again???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that's the given - correct ? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, x) Does that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kinda - at least we know what the first and last steps need to be :)

OpenStudy (aroub):

yes it helps!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok! X[ (Beast mode!)

OpenStudy (aroub):

Segment UV is congruent to segment XY, segment VW is congruent to segment WX, segment WX is congruent to segment YZ reason : given

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, Jessica , when you posted the seven steps - you had a reason associated with each og them already. Is that how it was written in the book ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. The reasons are to the right. And the statements on the left.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the way you posted it - the reason for the below was not "reason: given" : Segment UV is congruent to segment XY, segment VW is congruent to segment WX, segment WX is congruent to segment YZ

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.....did I mess up on something?

OpenStudy (aroub):

ah! can u pleaseee post a picture!!??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you supposed to draw lines connecting the statements on the left with the reasons on the right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we'll give you a medal if you post a picture !!! :)

OpenStudy (aroub):

yyeeeesss!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, the statements are to the left and the reasons are to the left of them. GAaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look on the tweedle the tweedle! There is a redonkulous picture there! Dx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what-eva :)
