What is endoplasmic reticulum?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is a cell organelle. it is of two types:- Rough ER- it contains ribosomes on its outer surface.....which help in the synthesis of protein. Smooth ER- it is free of ribosomes. it helps in the synthesis of fat or lipid.

OpenStudy (aroub):

endoplasmic reticulum is a network of canals and tubes running throughout the cytoplasm.it transports substances from one part of the cell to another.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

endoplasmic reticulum surrounds the nucleus and is also found free floating in the cytoplasm, in respect the the RE and the SE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its functions are: rough ER - protein sunthesis (rough because of the presence of ribosomes) smooth ER - membrane synthesis and trafficking
