Maybe you have an average teacher instead of outstanding one? Maybe the reading material so far hasn't been interesting to you? You get out of it what you put in - that applies to just about everything, not just a literature class.

Cos you never got into the beauty and wonder of Books. I like The Gaurdian and other Broadsheet Book Columms, reliable, authorative,helpful. Broadsheets whether UK or US based are always rich in material to provide inspiration.
Also become a member of Goodreads and get READING!!!. All you need is to get a Reading Habit which you need to marry with it's complement WRITING!! (what god hath joined together let no man blow assunder). Let yourself struggle, go up and down, feel you need this type of book in that type of format, rest, forge ahead etc. Third point HAVE A MIND OF YOUR OWN based on extensive Reading and de facto engagement with the Texts (which you do au naturalle). Relate to others online who are authors, young or old!! shock horror reliable workhorses of the Literary genre ie Martin amis, Joyce carol oates etc. GET INTO ALL TYPES OF READING AND WRITING and START A BLOG about it. That way you will feel yourself being able to engage in a real way with your what used to be boring Course, and your Teacher will notice which will boost your confidence, make you feel cool in class. Academic work and progress = Cool, becoming a bum = great mistake. Write Write Write Write and read read read read read.
 Hope it helps!! I speak from experience as one would is wrestling with her voice what is her voice and how it is formed and by what literatures and behaviours. NB Academic Texts are your fluttering best friends. yuou will find out more with them than you would any episode of Jersey Shore. Take Sartre, Derrida, Jane Austen, etc AND your trash tv to help you relaex. I know, cos I do.

AP lit is a harder course do do so most of the time you aren't able to do anything fun in there you just gotta keep goin
