What mistake?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Soybean meal is 16 percent. Cornmeal is 18 percent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How many lbs of each should be mixed together to get 320 lb mixture that makes 15 % protein?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

put x = amount of soybean it contributes 16% of the protein or .16x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the amount of cornmeal is 320 - x (since the total is 320) and it contributes .18(320-x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait a minute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can't add something that is 16% protein to something that is 18% protein and end up with something that is 15% protein!

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

you told me it was 8%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dang it, you guys got me confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i read this Soybean meal is 16 percent. Cornmeal is 18 percent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is for sure. the problem is not right. post again and i bet it will be doable

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

i showed you how to set it up in your other post

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like adding 100 proof liquor to 86 proof liquor and ending up with 60 proof liquor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

repost and it will be fine i am sure. we can do it slowly, step by step. especially since dumbcow did it already

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Soybean meal is 16%. Cornmeal is 18%. How many lbs of each should be mixed together to get 320 lb mixture that is 15% protein????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How many lbs of cornmeal should be in the mixture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How many lbs of the soybean mean should be in the mixture?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

look at other post

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold the phone. you cannot solve this!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe it is not clear why, or is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you use all soybeans it will be 16% protein and if you use all cornmeal it will be 18% cornmeal and if you mix them up it will be some percent between 16% and 18% and will NEVER be 15%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16% soybean.....8% cornmeal what makes 320 mixure of 15% protien?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8%! not 18% now we can do it!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ready?

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

Sateliteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee http://assets.openstudy.com/updates/attachments/4e50c9260b8b958804ac86c4-saifoo.khan-1313917428272-ubantu.jpg

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WHooHoo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok lets go slow shall we?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you can do another one if (god forbid) you have to. it is really not so hard

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

who you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

introduce a variable as the amount of soybeans, say x = amount of soybeans

OpenStudy (anonymous):

soofai...let's go to the othe room

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now the total is 320 pound so if you have x pounds of soy beans you have 320- x pounds of cornmeal. clear?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

bunny, im working on something just in 10mins. =)

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

my turn now!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I hear ya.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok now soybeans are 16% protein, so they contribute .16x of the protein. cornmeal is 8% protein so it contributes .08(320-x) of the protein

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

Sateliteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee? :( Just give me the answerrrrrrrrrrrrrr... Please..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the total amount you get is \[.16x+.08(320-x)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

saifoooooooooooooooooooo (be quiet)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am doing my final tonight.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and you want that to total 15% of 320 which is \[.15\times 320=48\]

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

------------------------QUIET------------------ -----------------------TOTALLY-----------------

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you have to solve \[.16x+.08(320-x)=48\] for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to make your life easier solve \[16x+8(320-x)=4800\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no more stupid decimals.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Saifoo....I am doing my final tonight.......

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

bunny, I will help u on it.. xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to make your life really really easy use \ http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=16x%2B8%28320-x%29%3D4800 and see that x = 280

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so answer is 280 pounds of soybeans and 320-280=40 pounds of cornmeal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

280 soybean 40 cornmeal halas

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

can i speak now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but of course. i thought dumbunny would have to do another one and needed the method

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would hope now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but if this is all, then just answers are fine

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hope "not" right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I appecite your help satellite.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem. on line final?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But my major bud is Saifoo.
