that they are high. mitochondria are the cell's power generator. as a sperm is expected do traverse quite a distance, and all the more be the quickest about it, in order to fertilize the egg.

sperm needs respectivly high amounts of energy for rotation of it's flagella and moving toward egg

Obviously sperm cells needs a lot of energy......As it need to move up to the egg to make it fertilized.....A big fraction of energy is consumed in the movement of the cell..
