how do u find the square root with out using a calculator?
Using your head.
There are a number of methods. You can use series, or any one of several approximation methods.
uh...
hes, u r not in the least helpful
chess*
by hand :) (x+y)^2 = x^2 + 2xy + y^2
for example: lets take the sqrt of 13456 from the deci, seperate it into groups of 2 1 34 56. 00 00 00
im sorry, amistre, but for some reason i can never understand ur explainations
this is gonna be like long hand division now first find an x^2 that is close to but not greater then our first group; in this case 1 1^2 = 1 so lets use it :) 1 --------------- 1 / 1 34 56. 00 00 1 ----- 0 34 <- bring down the next grouping
this is were the x^2 + 2xy+y^2 comes into play; we know our "x" = 1 so (2x)*y + y^2 is what we are looking for; sounds harder than it is
1 --------------- 1 / 1 34 56. 00 00 1 ----- 2x__/0 34 ----------------------------- 1 --------------- 1 / 1 34 56. 00 00 1 ----- 2(1)__/0 34 ------------------------------------ 1 --------------- 1 / 1 34 56. 00 00 1 ----- 2__/0 34 ; so twenty what times what is close to 34? 20*0 = 0 21*1 = 21 <-- pick 1 22*2 = 44
1 1 --------------- 1 / 1 34 56. 00 00 1 ----- 21/0 34 21 ---- 1356 start over --------------------- 2(11)___ = 22___ 22y*y is close to 1356 ?? 220*0 = 0 221*1 = 221 222*2 = 444 etc
226*6 = 1356 ... i guess we can use 6 :) ......................................... 1 1 6. --------------- 1 / 1 34 56. 00 00 1 ----- 21/0 34 21 ---- 226 / 1356 1356 ------ 0 we can stop 116^2 = 13456 right?
