how do I solve the following word problem? "Trevon left home and drove toward the recycling plant. 1.3 hours later, Ted left, driving 10.4 mph faster than Trevon in an effort to catch up to him. After 3 hours, Ted finally caught up. What was Trevon's average speed?"

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

distance = rate * time since Ted caught up they went the same distance just at different rates and times Let r be trevons speed, then (r+10.4) is teds speed Ted was driving for 3 hours trevon was driving for 3+1.3 or 4.3 hours set the distances equal -> 4.3r = 3(r+10.4) solve for r
