the number of computers sold by Company XYZ depends on the dollar amount, x, that they spend on advertising. How many computers will they sell by spending $100,000 on advertising? (A few steps would be helpful, as well as the answer!)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

XYZ = MICROSOFT It is no conspiracy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There must be some expression in the question..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes! There is, I forgot! Sorry! N(x) = 100+20*ln(0.25x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I plugged in the 100,000 and multiplied it by .25, but not sure how to go from there!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

N(x) stands for computrs sold, am I right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes? That's what I am assuming!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i'm assuming you can use your calculator for this one unless you are a super computer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

damn you polar coordinates I WANT RECTANGULAR

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, but I get lost in the steps... from here I get 100+ 20* ln(25,000) after that I get 302.53, but I'm pretty sure the number should be much higher!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.. you are right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought the number would be larger - THANKS!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah 302.53 is what i'm getting also

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I lawled when my calculator can't process 100000 on the graph

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

jenn think of it this way, if they sell each computer for 1,000 dollars then thats like making 302,000 from spending 100,000 on advertising so its still a profit and 302 makes more sense
