who is the owner of the internet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do yu think internet can be owned?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The closest we have to actual ownership of the Internet is by the collective web hosting services.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The internet is a huge network comprised of smaller networks, which are also made up of smaller networks, etc. etc. The internet isn't anything tangible; for something to be "connected to the internet," it is simply connected via networks to all the information which is also connected to the network of networks known as "the internet." You can think of the internet as a network of roads, and your computer is like a car. When you have your car on the road you can reach every destination which is also on the network of roads. No one person owns all the roads, each town builds its own roads and connect their network of roads to the already existing network of roads, just as Comcast, for example, builds all the infrastructure for an area's network of internet, and makes it directly connected to the already existing network of internet that is ultimately connected to every internet network in the world. When you pay Comcast, for example, for internet, you are paying for the wires they set up and customer support they provide when the wires get screwed up.

Well Boxxy is the queen, if you consider that ownership. But you can own it too: http://you-win-the-internet.com/

The Human!!

i own the internet. you own it too. we all own it. the internet ceases to exist the day all humans embrace their telepathic and other metaphysical abilities. it's still in a very distant future, i guess.
