find two numbers that multiply to be 144, and add to be -24
This is my favorite type of math questions, factoring.
Lagrangeson is right. That's the first step.
so the two numbers are -12 and -12, the sum of -12 and -12 is -24, and the multiplacation of -12 and -12 is +144. So the answer is (x-12)(x-12) , so x=13
If there is a number in front of y^2, then you'd multiply 144 with that number in front of y and figure out the sum/multiplication to get the middle number.

to get 12, x-12=y, get x by itself, then you get 12 as an answer.
