I would like once again to put up the suggestion that posts from new users/neophytes should only be answered in the first instance by neophytes/lifesavers. "Serious" neophytes will not stay such for very long.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Hm. So the idea here is that the neophyte is at a disadvantage unless they also offer help?

Not only that, other neophytes/lifesavers (recent arrivals) will have a chance to get their feet wet ( it is often the case, especially at quiet times, that a new post can be visited by many old hands and an answer (or something else) posted almost instantly several times for an easy question). I don't think there is any danger of a question going unanswered for long and new users seem quite adept at figuring out how to yell for assistance in chat or some other way if they feel they are being ignored. As I said, serious users will look for a way "up" as soon as possible and it might also encourage others to do the same. It is possible of course that the changed dynamic might have an unexpected effect but then the change is easily reversible in that event.
