Back emf is an apparent opposition to applied voltage in circuit elements due to the phenomena of self induction due to self induction the current elements like solenoids change flux associated with themselves and cause an induced emf which in turn obey lenz,s law and oppose the appalied voltage and is thus termed as back emf
