OpenStudy (trancenova):

Fun Fact #11: This one is about the weird and wonderful world of soil bacteria. Bacteria can actually transfer DNA between each other when they contact (through bacterial conjugation). This means that in a diverse population of soil bacteria functions get swapped about like there's no tomorrow allowing very fast adaptation. The more species of bacteria in a population, the more DNA there is to swap around.

Now THAT"S weird. Imagine if humans did that... no one would hang out with the ugly people...

OpenStudy (trancenova):

haha so true.. and if you were good looking everyone would keep running into you lol

OpenStudy (aroub):

wow! so weird!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WOW !!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but not so wierd ....

OpenStudy (trancenova):

haha why not so weird Hashir?

OpenStudy (aroub):

lol! yea why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because it is what causes variation in them in human though there is variation crated by swapping of genes ...through a different process though !!!!

OpenStudy (trancenova):

hmm well I suppose that makes sense, I guess the weird thing is that the change in genetics doesn't occur in the cells offspring but in the cell itself.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeaa!totally cooll!just imaging it to happen in humansss!lol!weird

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you think that would be weird with humans... think about asexual reproduction...

OpenStudy (trancenova):

haha! that could be interesting (if we just split in half :P)... or not very interesting and we would just be clones...and there would probably not be any men...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@trance-lol
