What is the difference between a spectrum produced by a diffraction grating and that produced by a prism?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Prisms use refraction rather than diffraction.

Grating spectrum is a spectrum produced as a result of diffraction.as by a grating, where as prismatic spectrum is a consequence of dispersion of light by a prism.in grating spectrum u also observe different orders of spectral lines, which does not happen in prismatic spectrum...hope this helps....
