Four containers of the same shape but different sizes are shown, arranged from the shortest to the longest. The following quantities are written below the containers. (x − 2) liters below the first, x liters below the second, (x + 2) liters below the third, and (x + 4) liters below the fourth. u add the individual capacities to get the total capacity so total volume = volume of water in 1st container + volume of water in 2nd container + volume of water in 3rd container + volume of water in 4th container = ( x - 2 ) + ( x ) + ( x + 2 ) + ( x + 4 ) adding the like terms => total volume = 4x + 4
