OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure what you mean. This is how it has it in the book

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve the system of what ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

system of equations? the exact wording is "Solve the system in Exercises 11-14". The section is called "System of Linear Equations"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are those exponents?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subscripts. xsub2. the number before the x is the coefficient, the number after is the subscript.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't get how you could solve it..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the answer is "Inconsistent" . I just don't know how to reach that conclusion.

hero (hero):

Set them all equal to zero then solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I set them equal to 0? x1 x2 x3 denote different variables. it's like x, y, and z. Sorry i didnt write teh question the best way

hero (hero):

Oh well, substitute the appropriate variables for x, y, and z then

hero (hero):

Belay my last

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, I see now. It is easier to use x, y, z.. So solve like how you would regularly; get a 4th equation. I took the 2nd equation and the 3rd equation and cancelled a variable to get y+5z = -2, and so on... It is inconsistent because after you get all your variables, you need to plug and check, and for one equation, the "correct" answer will not come out.

thank you. after trying again i got 0 0 0 -4 in the matrix.
