heyy, can someone help me, since there's no one online in the chemistry section. In organic chemistry, what two types of substances are combined to form an ester?? I know one of them is a carboxylic acid, what's the other?

let's use an example and find out. hmmmm: methanoic acid (ch3cooh) + ethanol (c2h5oh) should give ethyl methanoate, or methyl ethanoate. which one??
