A square pyramid has a base with perimeter of 28 inches and a height of 24 inches. Find the surface area and volume of the pyramid. I don't understand it, and theirs no diagram.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

volume = 1/3 * height * area of base height = 48 one side of the base = 28/4 = 7 ins so area = 7^2 = 49 volume = 1/3 * 24 * 49 = 392 cu ins

sorry - second line was wrong height = 24 but i used 24 for calculation

surface area is more complicated - you ned to calculate the slant height of the 4 sides of the pyramid slant height = sqrt(24^2 + 3.5 ^2) = 24.254 ins area of each side = 24.254 * 3.5 = 84.89 area of 4 sides = 339.56 + area of square base 49: total surface area = 388.56 sq ins
