Realism is anything that reflects reality. it can be a fictional novel that represents a significant event occurring in society. A book written about the war in Iraq from the viewpoint of a solider for example. The author didn't necessarily go to war, but often some sort of research is done or others accounts of the situation are recorded and used in the novel. An example is Titanic. There really was a terrible accident in which a ship hit an iceberg and sunk, but the love story is not necessarily totally true, but more added for an effect and to make a good movie. It's like a mixture or fact and fiction.
