Fats are absorbed across the intestinal epithelium which lines the villi, which are structures protruding from the intestinal wall with the function of increasing surface area for absorption. The fat then drains from the villi via special lymphatics called lacteals. The fat laden lymph (chyme) then drains into the subclavian vein - into the blood.
